PORTLAND, Ore. | October 23, 2026 — Portland-based singer-songwriter and filmmaker Kiti Capere has released “Pharaohs,” a politically charged new single confronting inequality and its aftermath. Released October 13 through Wilsonville-based boutique record label BentBeat Productions, the track introduces the sound and thematic ambition of Capere’s forthcoming album, Slowdance to Nowhere.

Blending alt-Americana with alt-rock, “Pharaohs” pairs emotive songwriting with Capere’s soulful contralto vocals. It offers a pointed reflection on structures that place extraordinary resources in the hands of a privileged few.

“When developing this concept, I kept thinking about how the common denominator between pharaohs and modern-day oligarchs has always been fallen empires,” said Capere. “You have to think you are omnipotent, infallible, godlike, much like these ancient rulers positioned themselves, to think you are immune to the consequences of your actions.”

Rather than confining itself to a single political moment, “Pharaohs” approaches its subject through a broader lens, exploring the enduring consequences of consolidated resources. Its release arrives ahead of the 2026 U.S. midterm elections, giving the song additional resonance amid ongoing public debates about wealth, democracy, and political accountability.

“‘Pharaohs’ takes on concentrated power without pointing at one person or one party, and I think that's why it will hold up long after this election cycle,” said Dave Beatty, studio producer and co-writer. “Kiti came into the studio with a clear vision, and my job was to make the track feel as big as the idea behind it.”

With “Pharaohs,” Capere establishes an artistic direction that resists easy genre boundaries, drawing from multiple sonic traditions and dramatic rock textures while keeping the songwriting at the center. The single is the opening statement from Slowdance to Nowhere, an album that explores the uncertain spaces between intimacy and control. The project reflects Capere’s multidisciplinary approach to storytelling, bringing together music and visual art, a sensibility shaped by her work as a filmmaker.

Capere has developed a grassroots promotional campaign that includes a lyric visualizer and outreach to Pacific Northwest radio stations. The campaign reflects a commitment to building an audience through independent radio, visual storytelling, and direct connections with listeners.
